How it works
How to remove metadata from photos
Add your photos
Drop photos into the box above, or press Choose files. You can add as many as you like.
See what was found
Each photo shows the hidden data it contained, such as a location, date or camera model. It is removed straight away.
Download
Save each file on its own, or download everything at once as a ZIP file.
Why
Why remove photo metadata?
Photos carry hidden data such as the exact GPS location where they were taken, the date and time, and the phone or camera model. Remove it before you post, sell or send pictures. JPG, PNG and WebP files are cleaned without re-compressing, so quality stays exactly the same.
Guide
What hidden photo metadata reveals
What phones and cameras store
Every photo from a phone or camera contains EXIF metadata. With location services turned on, phones save the GPS coordinates where the picture was taken, often accurate to a few meters. Photos also record the date and time, the phone or camera model, lens and exposure settings, and sometimes the owner name, editing software and a small preview image.
When it matters
A photo of something you sell online, taken at home, can reveal your home address. Pictures of children can reveal their school or daily routine. Journalists, activists and anyone with a stalker have good reason to remove location data before sharing anything.
Where metadata survives
Big social networks remove most metadata from public posts, but files sent by email, shared as documents in chat apps, uploaded to forums and marketplaces, or shared through cloud storage links usually keep everything. The safest habit is to clean photos yourself before they leave your device.
Check what a photo contains
When you add a photo here, ConvertOrino shows what it found, such as a location or camera model, before removing it. Nothing is uploaded while it checks.
Questions
Questions and answers
Is it safe to clean my files here?
Yes. ConvertOrino cleans your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.
What metadata does this remove?
EXIF data (location, date and time, camera and lens, settings), XMP and IPTC data (editing history, captions, author), comments and embedded thumbnails. The color profile and the rotation of the photo are kept, so it still looks the same.
Does removing metadata reduce quality?
No. For JPG, PNG and WebP only the metadata blocks are removed and the image data is copied unchanged. HEIC photos are saved as JPG at high quality, since HEIC cannot be cleaned without re-encoding here.
Do social networks remove location data anyway?
Large networks such as Instagram and Facebook strip most metadata from public posts, but email, messaging apps, cloud links, forums, marketplaces and your own website usually keep it. Cleaning files yourself is the only way to be sure.
Is the Remove Photo Metadata tool free?
Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?
Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
