How it works
How to compress JPG images
Add your images
Drop JPG images into the box above, or press Choose files. You can add as many as you like.
Adjust quality if you like
The default settings work well for most photos. Lower the quality or set a maximum size to make files even smaller, then press Apply settings.
Download
Save each file on its own, or download everything at once as a ZIP file.
Why
Why compress JPG images?
Reduce the file size of JPG photos while keeping them looking the same. A quality setting around 75 usually gives the best balance.
Formats
About the formats
What is JPG?
JPG (also written JPEG) has been the standard format for photos since 1992. It uses lossy compression, which keeps files small by discarding detail the eye barely notices. It cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become a solid color.
Questions
Questions and answers
Is it safe to compress my files here?
Yes. ConvertOrino compresss your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.
Which quality setting should I use?
Between 70 and 80 is the sweet spot for photos. Go lower for thumbnails, higher for images where fine detail matters.
Is the Compress JPG tool free?
Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?
Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.
Is hidden metadata such as location removed?
Yes, by default. Location, camera details and other EXIF data are removed from every converted image. For JPG output you can untick Remove metadata to keep the date taken and camera details instead.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
