Why

Why convert WebP to JPG?

Images saved from websites often turn out to be WebP, and some apps, printers and upload forms will not accept them. Converting to JPG makes them open anywhere.

Guide

Saving web images as JPG

Why websites use WebP

WebP images are smaller than JPG at the same quality, so pages load faster. Most large websites and online shops serve WebP automatically to browsers that support it, which is why saving an image often gives you a .webp file.

Where WebP still causes problems

Older photo editors, some versions of Microsoft Office, many printing services, email clients and upload forms expect JPG or PNG. Converting the saved WebP to JPG fixes this. Choose PNG instead if the image has a transparent background you want to keep.

Formats

About the formats

What is WebP?

WebP is an image format introduced by Google in 2010 for the web. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation. According to Google, lossy WebP files are typically 25 to 34 percent smaller than comparable JPG files.

What is JPG?

JPG (also written JPEG) has been the standard format for photos since 1992. It uses lossy compression, which keeps files small by discarding detail the eye barely notices. It cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become a solid color.

Questions

Questions and answers

Is it safe to convert my files here?

Yes. ConvertOrino converts your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.

Why do images I save from websites end up as WebP?

Many websites serve WebP because it loads faster. When you save the image, your browser keeps that format. Converting to JPG makes it compatible with older software.

Is the WebP to JPG tool free?

Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?

Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.

Is hidden metadata such as location removed?

Yes, by default. Location, camera details and other EXIF data are removed from every converted image. For JPG output you can untick Remove metadata to keep the date taken and camera details instead.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
