How it works

How to compress PNG images

  1. Add your images

Drop PNG images into the box above, or press Choose files. You can add as many as you like.

  2. Adjust quality if you like

The default settings work well for most photos. Lower the quality or set a maximum size to make files even smaller, then press Apply settings.

  3. Download

Save each file on its own, or download everything at once as a ZIP file.

Why

Why compress PNG images?

Make PNG files smaller by reducing the number of colors, while keeping transparency. Works especially well on screenshots, logos and illustrations.

Formats

About the formats

What is PNG?

PNG is a lossless image format released in 1996. Every pixel is kept exactly, and it supports full transparency, which makes it the usual choice for logos, icons, screenshots and anything with text. Photos saved as PNG are often several times larger than the same photo as JPG.

Questions

Questions and answers

Is it safe to compress my files here?

Yes. ConvertOrino compresss your files with code that runs in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, nobody else can see your files, and they are gone as soon as you close the page.

How does PNG compression work here?

The image is reduced to a smaller color palette, 256 colors by default, and saved with efficient compression. Choose Lossless to keep every color, which shrinks the file less.

Is the Compress PNG tool free?

Yes, completely free. There is no sign up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit, because your own device does the work. Very large files are limited by the memory of your device. Phones handle files of a few hundred megabytes, computers handle much more.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?

Yes. It works in any modern browser, including Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing needs to be installed.

Is hidden metadata such as location removed?

Yes, by default. Location, camera details and other EXIF data are removed from every converted image. For JPG output you can untick Remove metadata to keep the date taken and camera details instead.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion works without an internet connection, which also proves that your files are not sent anywhere.
